But what does that mean? We have created sample menus featuring popular dishes we have created several times in the past to show you the sort of items you’ll see on our updated, seasonal menus when you visit us at 1861.
Seasonality is hugely important to us. So, we create fresh menus regularly to ensure we can use the best local and seasonal ingredients from Monmouthshire and the surrounding areas.
We are also happy to create special menus for diners who have specific dietary requirements. They include vegans, vegetarians, and those needing a gluten free meal. Plus, we’ll create a special menu for children if they come to done with you.
We may source our ingredients from local farmers and suppliers, from our own orchard and garden, or from our frequent foraging trips in the fields and hedgerows surrounding our countryside restaurant with rooms.
In some restaurants, the menu doesn’t change from week to week or month to month. We do things differently at 1861. This allows Simon the space to use his skill, lengthy culinary experience, and creativity to give our diners the best gourmet experience possible when they visit us.
For example, we’ve recently foraged for wild mushrooms and harvested quince from our orchard. In the spring and early summer, we forage for wild garlic and elderflower. Eating seasonally from nature’s bounty is one of life’s joys, isn’t it?
Please note that we also include special menus for events such as Christmas Eve or Christmas Day at the end of our ‘Dine’ page which will be the finished menu you receive for those events.
