Mother’s Day will soon be here, so we’ve been thinking about some mouthwatering ways to treat our lovely mums and grandmothers. 

Here are our dish suggestions to make on March 10th and show your mum how much you care… 


Prawn cocktail – A classic starter and still a Mother’s Day crowd pleaser. Use some double cream for a creamy taste to your Marie Rose sauce and tabasco and cayenne for a little kick! 

Wild mushroom tartlets – Make them with white wine, crème fraîche, thyme, garlic, and pine nuts. Perfect for vegetarians. 

Salmon pâté toasts – Serve with a watercress and spinach salad with a honey and mustard dressing. 

Tomato bruschetta – Flavoured with red onion, basil, garlic, and balsamic vinegar. Choose the right crusty bread, and this would be a lovely vegan starter. 

Potted crab – Flavour with lemon juice, cayenne, and mace and serve with brown toast. 

Main Courses  

Parmesan chicken – Coat chicken breast escalopes in breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan and fry them for a crispy dish served with roasted tomatoes and torn basil leaves. A perfect Mother’s Day main course.

Creamy fish pie – Top it with crisp shortcrust pastry and serve with spring vegetables. Add dill, cream, cauliflower, and peas to the pie with the white fish of your choice. 

Caramelised onion and goat’s cheese pizza – Add spinach leaves, thyme, Kalamata olives, garlic, and balsamic vinegar to your sweet onion and tangy cheese topping. An excellent vegetarian option. 

Baked ricotta with lentils – This is a no-fuss one-pan dish that will give you and your mum plenty of time to enjoy the day. Add basil, spinach, puy lentils, dill, lemon, cherry tomatoes, shallots, and a whole ricotta and drizzle with oil and roast. Serve with crusty bread. 

Spring greens spanakopita – This delicious traditional Greek dish combines filo pastry, ricotta, Pecorino cheese, shredded spring greens, leeks, garlic, dill, parsley, mint, lemon, and nutmeg.  


Apple and vanilla tart – Make this delicious flat tart with puff pastry, vanilla sugar, eating apples, and apricot jam. Serve with vanilla ice cream for a fruity treat this Mother’s Day. 

Lemon meringue pie – It’s a light and fluffy way to round off a meal combining crisp pastry, tangy lemon curd, and sweet meringue.  

Trifle – Still a favourite with mums everywhere! Include sponge fingers, boozy raspberries, a white chocolate custard, and whipped cream for an adult treat. Make this vegan by using vegan white chocolate and coconut cream. 

Poached rhubarb and white chocolate mousse pots – Top them with crunchy oats for added text and flavour them with vanilla. 

Vegan mocha cheesecake – This no-bake cheesecake has a vegan brownie base sweetened with dates and bound together with cashew butter, with layers of cheesecake made from dairy free yogurt, coconut milk, espresso coffee, and cashews. Its top layers are sweetened by maple syrup.
